Henry Leng is a pharmacist and holds bachelors’ degrees in science (1980) and pharmacy (1983) as well as a master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of the Western Cape. He also obtained a master’s degree in Pharmacology (Cum Laude) from the University of Stellenbosch and a Ph.D (Pharmacology) from the University of Cape Town. He did postdoctoral research, funded by a fellowship received from the Flemish Community Government, at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
He serves on a number of expert committees of the South African Health Products Regulatory Agency (SAHPRA) and is chairperson of the Pharmaceutical & Analytical Committee of SAHPRA. He is also a quality reviewer/assessor of applications for the registration of both human and veterinary medicines. Finally, he has served on several working groups which reviewed and wrote guidelines for the registration of medicines.
