Dr Vinny Naidoo


Vinny qualified as veterinarian from the Medical University of Southern African in 2001, and subsequently completed both his Masters and PhD and associated specialist training in veterinary pharmacology at the University of Pretoria. He is currently the Dean of the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Pretoria. His research expertise lies within the ambits of drug registration in South Africa, with focus on translational animal research of new pharmaceutical products, pharmacokinetics and preclinical toxicology. To date he’s been involved in the commercial development over 70 pharmaceutical products for the South African market as part of the University’s contract research consultancy; supervised 23 Masters/Doctoral Students; and authored/co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. Outside of University activities, Vinny also serves as a member on the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and is actively involved in matters pertaining to veterinary education and medicines control; is involved with the control of veterinary medicines as a technical expert for the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority; a member on the country’s Ministerial advisory committee on antimicrobial resistance. He also has assisted as a technical advisor to the Registrar of Stock remedies; and is involved with vulture conservation with a local non-profit organization.
